Mount Vernon Clinic adds after-hour care after regular business hours

MOUNT VERNON, Mo We are at the peak of the sickness season.
Now Mount Vernon has a place where you can be seen after work, without having to make a long drive to a doctor. James Webb came in to the Mount Vernon Clinic to be seen for a sore throat.

And he was able get in to see a doctor after five.

"It works around my work schedule instead of most doctor’s clinics." said James Webb, about the added after-hours.

Normally James would have had to drive out of town after work to be seen.

"Most of the time we would be going to Springfield." explained Webb.

But now the clinic has after-hour care, something that Doctor Cheryl Williams says has been in the works for 10 years.

"Mount Vernon has no after hours ER or urgent care, Aurora only has an emergency room, and Monett has urgent care and emergency room but it is 20-30 minutes away." Williams said.

She says that during the day they take care of normal doctor’s visits and treat people who are sick.

And in the evening they can take care of you if you aren’t feeling well.

"Sore throats, coughs, urinary tract infections, lacerations, if you have an infection, if you have a headache or if you have your blood pressure up and just want it checked." Williams says that those are things that can be checked out during the after-hours time at the clinic.

Although the clinic handles things similar to an urgent care, they work to make it affordable for you.

"It is an office co-pay, not an urgent care or ER co-pay. So it will be more cost effective for the patients to come here." explained Williams.

The clinic accepts Cox and Mercy insurance, as well as Medicare, Medicaid, or self pay.

It is open normal hours from 9am-5pm on Monday through Friday. But the after-hours extend that from 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday through Friday, and 9am to Noon on Saturday.

"It is really nice to have it here in Mount Vernon, I can’t say how much it is a blessing." Webb said.

The after hours is NOT for normal checkups.
